I pointed her out to some people at Cafe Primo in LA, and they couldn't believe she was *once* a gorgeous model and actress. She looks very haggard and manly (maybe it's the baggy mens style clothes and always disheveled hair). Maybe she's a drinker bc she's too young to look that bad if she's cherishing her health and looks. Sadly, I've never seen Susanna Hoffs in person, but I know she made a video a few years ago with Rosanna Arquette, and she looks nearly the same as in the 80s, not a pound overweight. I fell onto this site bc I was searching her name for other reasons — when I was in high school people would stop and ask me if I was Susanna Hoffs. For my HS graduation dinner I was given the best seat in the restaurant because they thought I was her. That evening with my family, I went with it and said, yes, I'm Susanna. We both grew up in LA and graduated from UC Berkeley (not at the same time - she's 12 yrs older). People guess my age 27-30. I'm 46. I guess we're both aging well. Must be the ethnic genes. Nice post by the way! Funny and well-written! That's stupid.
But in defense of some folks, I know a friend with a December birthday who always had her party in June so they could have an outdoor party (December in Iowa is NOT conducive for outdoor parties). But she didn't have a party in December, so it's not like she doubled up. Likewise, I know a woman who has a half birthday party for her daughter because the girl's birthday is in August. She decided it was too hard to try and have a party when everyone is gone for the summer, so she has it in Feb or March instead. But again, no celebration in August. They just wait and do the whole thing on the halves instead of the actual day.
But if it's just another excuse for presents? But for some reason, even...Ah yes, such is my life. But for some reason, even at 5 years old, I thought it was all bullshit. I remember being in CCD and asking the nun what her wedding ring was for. When she told me, I said (ahem...5 years old)..."Well, that's just stupid. You can't DO IT with god!" So, yeah. And then I told the priest I stabbed my sister with a pencil on my first confession because I didn't have anything else to say. Obviously, it was a lie... but I thought it was funny. Anyway, I could never get the whole religion thing to stick. I went to a Baptist church later because that's where all my friends went. That was pretty much bullshit. And then I went to a Unitarian church, but all I did there was smoke weed and watch A Clockwork Orange. So, you're doing better than me because I've never believed in god or the baby jesus in the manger or hail mary full of grace and blah, blah, blah. But I have released my kids from any of my bias to believe in anything they choose. My oldest son is currently reading Origin of the Species for fun. If the only reason you don't attend a church is because of the annoying steps you have to take to become a memeber, you can still show up. I know that at my church, many people are not technically a "member" of the church, but nobody's about to kick them out. Some of those people have been attending the same church for decades and never became a formal member.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8373109764994144189.post-64853320231854753572011-03-05T00:25:33.145-06:002011-03-05T00:25:33.145-06:00Oh wow, I have found my kindred spirit!
